This is the Indian Ocean we are searching!

April 1, 2014

From March 8, 2014, till date, the entire world has sent forces to search for a plane that disappeared after taking off from Kuala Lumpur with 239 people on board. While no confirmed sightings have been made since, the Malaysian Prime Minister confirmed on March 24 that the jet crashed into the Indian Ocean.

This is a 4-minute video of that search in the depths of Indian Ocean.

While it’s fairly easy to comment on the search operation, crack insensitive jokes, and speculate conspiracy theories sitting in front of a computer, the real heroes are the ones who have braved the force of nature to carry out such search operation.

Watch the video to remind ourselves how big is nature and how small we are!

Our prayers are with the families of those on-board the unfortunate aircraft.

World's Largest Democracy heads for the elections '14

April 10, 2014

This time the elections in India bear an amount of TANG!

It's a race for the PM post between three political leaders: Narendra Modi, Rahul Gandhi and Arvind Kejriwal.

Though Modi faces the taint of not doing much to protect minorities during the 2002 riots in Gujarat, for which the US refused him a Visa; opinion polls and social media comments seem to suggest he is the choice of many.

Arvind Kejriwal, with his much publicized 'honest' ways of operation, has actually slipped down in the eyes of the hopeful middle class after a few of his unworthy stunts over the last four crucial months. Even so, Kejriwal is quite breathing down Modi's neck.

His move to take on Modi appears to showcase him as an alternative to some, including the minorities.

Last of all, and the LEAST, is Rahul Gandhi, the haloed grandson of the reverent world leader, Mrs Indira Gandhi, and great-grandson of India's first PM, Jawaharlal Nehru. His infantile (read: babyish) ways has diminished him in political size, more so after he goofed-up a public interview on a news channel and, lock, stock and barrel, shattered the hopes of every ‘dynasty-struck’ voters, who he was so banking on as last straw.

Watching India over the next few weeks, as 814 million eligible voters head for the polling booth, will now be quite a nail-biting anticipation!                                            — EDITOR

TECH TANG

Meanwhile...

I often think of what will happen to all my information on Facebook page, Twitter account, e-mails, chat logs after I am gone!

It’s an eerie thought, but with the kind of web space we are occupying in this lifetime, we should be able to remain alive on web space even after we've leave! Well, after I came across this information, I may just rest in peace.

My loved ones can create a virtual ‘me’ on ‘Skype’ and chat with me, even after I am dead!

As weird as it may sound, the new service, which is being called Eterni.me, uses artificial intelligence to create a virtual version of someone you want to talk to. As FoxNews is reporting, registered members need to submit information regarding a dead person, such as chat logs, photos, emails, and social network accounts.

The service then automatically reconstructs an individual's personality and creates an artificially intelligent version of them, based on traces of their online activity, and allows you to initiate a video chatting session using Skype!

This project is created as part of MIT’s Entrepreneurship Development Program and gives you the chance to talk to dead people using Skype in a similar way that you do when video chatting with someone alive.

“Eterni.me collects almost everything that you create during your lifetime, and processes this huge amount of information using complex Artificial Intelligence algorithms,” Eterni.me states in the about section of the official website.

“Then it generates a virtual YOU, an avatar that emulates your personality and can interact with, and offer information and advice to, your family and friends after you pass away. It’s like a Skype chat from the past.

It does sound a bit scary, that’s for sure, but the developing team behind the project has promised to push the service out of private beta testing as soon as possible, so expect everyone to be allowed to try out the service in the coming months.
