There aren't any shortcuts to living healthily; and life comes with no guarantees. However, if the widely accepted paths to good health and a longer life like quitting smoking, eating a balanced, healthy diet and exercise aren't your thing, what can you do? Luckily, there are some ways that may aid in extending your lifespan.

Alcohol

Studies show that moderate drinkers may actually have a higher rate of mortality than those who do not drink altogether.

 

Coffee

Keeping a fixed caffeine intake in your body may reduce risks of heart diseases in women. Women who drink 2-3 cups of coffee a day are less likely to die from heart disease compared to those who do not drink coffee.

 

Chocolate 

Those who eat a moderate amount of chocolate live longer than those who do not eat chocolates or those who eat chocolates several times a week.

 

Love your mom

Astoundingly, people who are close to their mom have an extended lifespan and dramatically reduced risk of disease by midlife.

 

Garlic

Garlic's superpowers has been known for years. It lowers blood pressure, improves circulation, boosts immune system, helps regulate blood-sugar levels.

 

Start school later

School can wait. Beginning school earlier than six years can lead to increased risk of mortality.

 

Stretch in the morning

Take time to wake up despite a hurried schedule. Wake up stretching. Stretch your back, legs and neck. It will wake your body from the sleep. This also increases blood flow to your muscles giving an extra shot of oxygen and preparing you for a new day.

 

Chose the right spouse

Wed wisely. Who you marry makes a huge difference to the longevity of your life.

Have sex regularly

Having sex regularly lowers your stress and blood pressure, burns calories, helps body exercise and improves heart health dramatically.

 

Find new activities

Chose a new activity as time rolls by. This can involve the whole family and friends and can be activities like hiking, group sports, skiing or bike riding. This can give you the enjoyment and reduce stress. You’ll also start meeting people who have the same interests as you do and may make some new friends.

 

Retire in a countryside

Leave the concrete jungle and fast life and retire somewhere among the greens or beside the sea. According to the statistics, people who love in rural areas typically live longer than people who live in cities.

 

Own a pet

Pets heal the heart. Owning a pet decreases loneliness, depression, induces laughter, and helps exercise. Studies suggest they have an increased effect on mortality.  

 

Surround yourself with indoor plants

Along with giving an aesthetically improved living, some plants also reduce air pollution to a large extent and increase the quality of air.

 

Meditation & Yoga

Deep breathing and yoga is a universally accepted phenomenon for healthy living and you should diligently take out at least 15 minutes from your day to close your eyes in silence, inhale, exhale at least 10 times and do some basic yoga and stretching.

 

Sitting for long stretches can kill you

Get up every hour, stretch, walk and talk to people. An average person should take 10,000 steps a day. Taking fewer steps than that could have an impact on your health.
